Winter Art in the Heart of Vail Village

Vail Winterfest brings a touch of magic to Vail Village each winter, transforming the Gore Creek Promenade into an open-air gallery of hand-carved ice sculptures. Hosted by the Town of Vail’s Art in Public Places program, this free event celebrates winter through creativity, community, and awe-inspiring ice art.
Opening Celebration & Lighting
Each year kicks off with a community gathering to officially welcome Winterfest. Expect music, warm treats, and delicious sips as the ice display is lit for the first time. This is a wonderful way to experience the festival’s atmosphere and feel connected to the vibrant Vail community.
Gnome Home & Workshops
For 2026, Gnome Home, a whimsical world of gnomes, forest friends, and other playful figures sculpted in massive blocks of ice, is one of the standout installations. Alongside it, interactive activities like Gnome Hat Making and other creative workshops offer fun and hands-on entertainment for kids and adults alike.

Typically held from late January through mid-February, Winterfest features massive ice installations that sparkle during the day and glow beautifully at night. It is family-friendly, walkable, and the perfect addition to a winter stroll through Vail Village.
Whether you are visiting for a ski getaway or enjoying life as a local, Vail Winterfest is a simple, festive way to experience the charm of winter in the Vail Valley.
